The Western Fencing Academy’s Beginners Camp will begin on Monday, August 2nd and conclude on Friday, August 6th. The camp runs from 8:30 AM to 5 PM. The program will provide basic, beginner-level fencing instruction for children aged seven to fourteen. No experience is necessary to register. With the exception of cups and athletic clothing, all necessary equipment will be provided by the club. Registration costs $200. Please register by July 15th.
The Western Fencing Academy’s Intermediate Camp will begin on Monday, August 9th and conclude on Friday, August 13th. The camp runs from 8:30 AM to 5 PM. The program will expand upon some of the more advanced techniques used in fencing. Some prior experience is required to sign up for this camp. This experience can come from the WFA’s May and June program, any SportWestern fencing program, the WFA’s Beginners Camp and any fencing classes taken elsewhere. With the exception of cups and athletic clothing, all necessary equipment will be provided by the club. Registration costs $200. Please register by August 2nd.
Both camps will be held at the Jewish Community Centre of London at 536 Huron Street, near Adelaide. The venue is large, air-conditioned and has a courtyard for breaks and lunch. Fencing is fantastic exercise, very safe and lots of fun. It improves dexterity, concentration, agility and reaction time, therefore serving to increase performance in other sports. There are several opportunities to continue competitive and recreational fencing in London as a youth and young-adult. This activity looks great on resumes and university applications. Additionally, there is a well-developed university league in Ontario which boasts nine varsity programs, including the University of Western Ontario and Toronto. The Western Fencing Academy will provide a secure, supportive environment within which your child can be introduced to the great sport of fencing.
